Music Videos, Unsigned Bands and Social Media

According to research by Bruce at Music Think Tank unsigned artists and bands need to market themselves in a different manner to the many other artists and bands.

By doing this their music videos would not get lost 'in the crowd' on social media websites like facebook but would stand out and gain new fans.  He has named the process - sustainable engagement.

BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Nero and Dj Zane Lowe announce festival at MediaCityUK - Nero's Dubstep Symphony

This is a very interesting concept of BBC Philharmonic Orchestra promoting classical music to a wider audience by collaborating with BBC radio 1xtra DJ' Zane Lowe. A mix of dubstep with classical music.

Hopefully we can continue this idea in Coventry and Warwickshire!

Update for Broadcast with Performing Arts Services in Coventry

We are happy that the broadcast went out even though unfortunately it was later than planned.

Parts of the interview are to be enhanced to bring out more of what was talked about during the discussion.

We are aiming for Monday so I can send a post when closer to that time.

This is a few steps further towards developing an on-line community radio station.

Also please leave any comments, criticisms or even compliments about what you thought.

Information for Bands - Edexcel Battle of the Bands 2011

Hi,

There is another battle of the bands competition with a deadline for 23rd May.
The bands must be between 12 and 19 years of age, this is very important.

They have to submit music on youtube.

So this is for the 23rd May.

The web page is attached at the bottom of the post.

To summarise, there are 2 very urgent deadlines - 15th May (2 weeks time) and
23rd May (3 weeks time, but 12 to 19years only).

Please forward onto other bands as soon as possible.

Thanks

Information for Bands - 2 Weeks 2 Make It

Hi,

I hope all is well.

I have an urgent message for any bands who are serious about their music.  It is
urgent as the deadline to submit music is very close - 15th May.

Preferably before the 15th May a team from Birmingham are working with a team in
Coventry and are holding an event called 2 weeks 2 make it.

Basically, bands and the film crews have 2 weeks to make a video to present in a
competition and the best video team (band plus film crew) win a prize!

It is not expensive - just £50 to make a professional video, as costs are usually more.

I spoke to Carl the main co-ordinator and the requirements are that  - 1) the bands must be serious about adding this event to their music portfolio, 2) have performed live gigs and 3. have professionally recorded tracks.

So this is for 15th May 2011 (2 weeks from today).

The web link is attached below at the bottom of the post.

Have a look and let me know if interested.

Thanks

Radio Presenter Certificate

Quick Bio

Hi my name is Craig Davis and I have co-ordinated a music event in Rugby, Warwickshire. You would recognise me as the person in the picture with the glasses.

I am a trained healthcare professional but who is very passionate about music as having these positive experiences encouraged me to complete my healthcare studies.  This is why I co-ordinated the music event with my mentors.

I am working with my 2 mentors from the music business in this on-line community radio station. Following my completion of a radio presenter course they are building on my experiences to help me work with them to develop more opportunities to assist local artists promote their music.  One mentor has over 30 years of experience playing in and co-ordinating bands. My second mentor was signed to a major record label, Sony BMG.  A good way to understand this mentor role is that they are to train and support me while the radio station is being maintained. Both are very enthusiastic about working with local music artists and bands from all genres.

Part of the events planned for this radio is the aim to work with local artists in Coventry and Warwickshire to help promote their music.

Thank you for any help and support to this radio by posting on the blog how we are doing, what we are not doing that great as well as what we are doing well.

So if you are or know of any unsigned artists or bands then listen to the show and be involved. It could be you or your friends next played on the radio!
